SOLD 18th century Derby porcelain slop bowl
£0.00 inc. tax
This is a really beautiful bowl made in the late eighteenth century by Derby.
Although unmarked it is Derby tea pattern 50. It has 30 flutes and is beautifully gilded with bows and swags on the outside and a toothed pattern on the inside.
This was made at a time when the decoration was designed to compliment and show off the white of the porcelain, so the gilding is beautifully balanced to compliment the shape and the purity of the material. A really lovely example of Georgian elegance
Made around 1785 to 1795 it would have been part of a tea set, and would have been used to take the dregs from cups before refilling your cup.
There is no Derby mark but a small faint red 3 mark, probably the gilders number, making this gilded by William Cooper.
Diameter 16.5 cm height 8.5 cm.
Makers marks:
None, small faint red number 3 possibly for the gilder William Cooper.
Diameter:
16.5 cm
Height:
8.5 cm
Weight:
382 g
Age:
230 years
Condition:
Very good. Gilding quite unworn. Glaze in good condition. A three hairlines in the body away from the rim. These can form in old porcelain just as a result of age and are not unstable or the result of mishandling or damage. Please look carefully at the photographs to see these hairlines.
