Chamberlain Worcester Plate
This Chamberlain Worcester plate is a large and high quality plate with a somewhat plain pattern, but these patterns which are very detailed and repetitive are difficult to execute, requiring very controlled and precise execution for the final result to work.
Looking at the possible patterns in the pattern book and the slightly obscured pattern number it would appear to be pattern 1744. 'Adelaide, tea rose & blue gilt'
The brown printed mark on the back dates it between 1816-1845.
In trying to give a date for the manufature of this pattern we should take into account the total number of patterns recorded and the time period.
The factory closed in 1852 and the final recorded pattern number was 5019, and patterns around the 170 number are considered to be from approximately 1800. So we could give an estimate that this plate to have been made earlier than half way though the production so more likely late Georgian rather than early Victorian. Probably around 1825-30.
