Chelsea-Derby Dessert Dish

£85.00 inc. tax

A nicely decorated Chelsea-Derby dessert dish made during the Chelsea-Derby period 1770-1784.

This clearly was a very popular pattern in the reign of George the third.

A central urn embellished with swags of green foliage within a cartouche of blue and gilding, flanked by small grisaille groups depicting musical instruments, a bow and fletch of arrows and other such designs.

Around the rim, a deep blue enamelled border adorned with gilding and embellished with swags of green foliage.

William Duesbury, proprietor of the Derby Porcelain Factory acquired the Chelsea Porcelain Factory in 1770 heralding the so-called Chelsea-Derby period of porcelain production, which continued until 1784 when the factory at Lawrence Street Chelsea was closed and demolished.
