French Faience Box
£180.00 inc. tax
A very nice French faience box of a good size of approximately 11 cm across marked with a Veuve Perrin mark, which in this case is probably apocryphal.
The Perrin factory produced innovative and high quality faience from 1748 to 1803. These are highly prized pieces and subsequently were extensively copied throughout the 19th century.
This box is probably the work of ‘La Villa du Rond’ factory which was operating from 1831 until it closed in 1912.
There are a lot of pieces of French faience marked with the VP Perrin mark which are sold as Perrin and which are unfortunately not. Some of the 19th century copies are very good and high quality.
This is a charming box of very nice quality.
Faience is much more easily damaged than porcelain or stoneware, as it is a soft earthenware body with only the tin-glaze to protect it. So many of these pieces suffer from damage.
Apart from a fine hairline across one side of the box this is in very nice condition.
Probably from the earlier part of production at ‘La Villa du Rond’ around the middle of the 19th century.
