H. & R. Daniel Cup & Saucer Pattern 6543
A fabulous porcelain cup and saucer made at the factory of H. & R. Daniel in an intense rich blue with buff panels, gilding and floral features, pattern 6543.
The cup is footed with a twisted rope handle and both the cup and saucer are moulded with acanthus leaves. This is known as an "Acanthus" shape coffee cup and saucer.
Henry Daniel was born in 1765 and started his carear in ceramics as an enameller and colour maker working in Staffordshire.
Initially he ran a business within the Spode factory from at around 1805 until August 1822 when he formed his own business.
His second son Richard Daniel (1800–1884) was officially made a partner in 1826 hence their name H. & R. Daniel.
The factory continued until 1846 when it ceased due to insolvency.
As Queen Victoria took the thrown in 1837 this factories wares span the Georgian Regency period of George the fourth right into the Victorian period by 13 years. In total the factory opperated for just 24 years.
You can see some of the bolder colours and pattern in the earlier period reflect the Regency style and later the very ornate shapes but more refined colour combination come into fashion.
The Daniel factory was know for very high quality flower painting. He set out from the start to only employ the very best flower decorators he could find.

Condition:
Good antique condition. There is a hairline crack towards the base of the handle shown in picture 8. There is also a small scratch to the central flower on the saucer.
