Very Rare Faceted New Hall cup and saucer 1784-7
A very rare beautiful Georgian cup and saucer made by New Hall 1784-7 in fabulous condition.
Illustrated and discussed by Geoffrey Godden, 18th Century English Porcelain (1985), pl.199-200, pp.245-248 and col.pl.XXIII, also Godden's, New Hall Porcelains (2004), pp.196-197 and p.217.
Also, the pattern can be found in Pat Preller pp. 96 pattern U43.
These faceted forms are very rare and the survival of a this cup and saucer remaining in such good condition and together over 230 years is a minor miracle.
Made from New Hall's hard paste with a characteristically cool grey-ish hue which is balanced and complimented beautifully with buttery gold gilding.
Both cup and saucer have 16 vertical facets, decorated with a simple gilt border and delicate gilded pattern and a plain loop handle.
A part tea service sold at Bonhams in 2013.
